Lucknow: The Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute (KSSSCI), Lucknow, has become the first in Uttar Pradesh and only the second government institution in India to acquire the state-of-the-art CyberKnife Radiotherapy Machine, a breakthrough technology capable of treating cancers previously considered inoperable. The advanced system, worth Rs 51 crore, arrived at the institute. Until now, this facility was available only at the Gujarat Cancer Research Institute, Ahmedabad.
According to Rajnikant Verma, Finance Officer & JDMM, the e-tender for the robot-mounted SRS & SBRT system was floated on January 7, 2025. Following the approval of the high-level purchase committee, the order was placed on March 30, 2025, and the letter of credit was established on June 26, 2025. The equipment has now reached the institute, with installation already underway. Patients are expected to benefit soon.
Prof. Madan Lal Brahma Bhatt, Director, KSSSCI, explained that the CyberKnife system delivers highly precise, non-invasive radiation to cancer cells, making it effective for treating complex and recurrent tumors in the brain, spine, lungs, liver, pancreas, prostate, and other organs. It is also particularly useful for **treating moving tumors, such as lung cancer**, with unparalleled accuracy.

He added that the facility will serve not only patients from Uttar Pradesh but also from across India and neighboring countries like Nepal. Currently, the institute already operates two high-tech linear accelerators, providing radiation therapy to nearly 150 patients daily.
With the addition of the CyberKnife, KSSSCI aims to significantly enhance cancer care and bring world-class treatment within reach of patients in the region.
